Edward K. Grassť is a partner with the firm with more than fifteen years of legal experience handling civil cases.

Legal Experience:Mr. Grassť has worked in the insurance defense area for more than fifteen years.Mr. Grassť has successfully tried civil jury trials and civil bench trials.He has arbitrated dozens of matters in the Cook and DuPage Mandatory Arbitration programs and several Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist cases.Mr. Grassť has also defended a large number of lawsuits in alternative dispute resolution forums, including American Arbitration Association, Mandatory Court Annexed Arbitration and in numerous private alternative dispute resolution forums.Since his admission to the bar, his legal experience has focused primarily in the defense of automobile accident, premises liability, fire and arson, commercial trucking, Dram Shop, religious organizations, mechanics liens and insurance coverage.He has made a number of appearances on the Total Living Network (TLN) cable television network as a panelist to discuss legal issues related to churches and religious institutions.

Professional Memberships:Mr. Grassť is a member of the Chicago Bar Association. He is a former Chair of the Chicago Bar Association Civil Practice & Procedure Committee and is currently co-chair of the Illinois Defense Counsel Civil Practice Committee.He is currently an appointed member of the Chicago Bar Associations Judicial Evaluation Committee, which reviews and evaluates potential jurists, and the Legislative Committee, which reviews all proposed and pending legislation in the Illinois Legislature. Mr. Grassť is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel.He has participated in several seminars and workshops with the Chicago Bar Association.

Publications and Presentations:Mr. Grassť is currently the author of the quarterly column of the Civil Practice and Procedure Committee for the IDC Quarterly, published by the Illinois Defense Counsel.He was a contributing author to the Legal Workbook for Religious Organizations which was prepared by the Chicago Bar Association Interfaith Law Committee. Mr. Grassť co-authored Proposed Changes to the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure and Related Statutes and Doctrines, IDC Quarterly, Volume 17, #2, 2007. Mr. Grassť is the coauthor of Disclosure of Mental Health Records in Illinois, Obtaining Records in a Civil Proceeding,@IDC Quarterly, Volume 11 #2, June 2001.Mr. Grassť also co-authored the Defense Update, specifically Is Prejudice a Factor in Determining the Proper Sanction for Failure to Comply with Rule 213 Disclosure, Spring Edition, 2002, Civil Practice and Procedure.Mr. Grassť is also the co-author of AApportionment and the Minimally Culpable Defendant - 2-1117 after Unzicker,@IDC Quarterly, Volume 13, #1, March 2003.Mr. Grassť is also the author of "Can an Evidence Deposition Act as a Proper Disclosure Under Rule 213?Defense Update, Volume 4, #1, March 2004.

Mr. Grassť has also authored several changes and modifications to Illinois statutes and Supreme Court Rules.

Mr. Grassť was also a presenter for Starting Points: Taking your First Doctorís Deposition, Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education, Dec. 19, 2007, and again on December 2, 2009 and November 3, 2011.

Education:Mr. Grassť received his Juris Doctor with Honors from the Chicago-Kent College of Law.He received his undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University with a double major in Political Science and Sociology.

Admitted to Practice:Mr. Grassť is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.He is also a member of the trial bar for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Grassť is also admitted pro hac vice in the State of Nevada.
